Saturday 12th November saw over 50 competitors and just as many family, friends and supporters make the trek  to Wedge Island for the 2011 State Wave Titles.

In what proved to be variable and light winds competitors battled it out in an exhausting series of heats for five and half hours. As an indication of the growth in support and popularity in wave riding, for the first time a number of women kiters also competed on Saturday.

Whilst conditions weren't as challenging as the 2010 event, the vibe on the beach was certainly more spectator friendly. With the last heat fought out earlier than planned, competitors and supporters quickly retreated to the Lancelin Beach Hotel for dinner and presentations with the hotel's 'Parma & Pint' for $20 proving to be almost as popular as the Wedge Island competition and the hotel quickly ran out of chicken parma's...

Once again, the competition has been the result of Russell Curtin's continuing drive and enthusiasm for wave riding. WAKSA greatly appreciates Russell's continuing enthusiasm and dedication for the comp - for two years Russell has been the driving force behind wave riding comps in WA and the Association looks forward to bigger and better comps in 2012.

WAKSA also appreciates the support and prizes generously provided by Dan and Reg from Kite Addiction.
