The WAKSA winter wave comp is fast approaching – 28/29 July or 4/5 August. The first winter storms are happening, so its time to get it together. We want you guys to know how the comps will be run and judged so you can practice and then rip it up in the comps. So here's the judging criteria and some comments, to help you.
A surfer must perform radical controlled manoeuvres in the most critical sections of a wave with power, speed and flow to maximise scoring potential. Innovative and progressive surfing as well as a variety of repertoire (manoeuvres) will be taken into consideration when rewarding points for waves ridden.
Sunday 18th December 2011 saw the running of the second Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton Kite Race.
Just over one hundred kiters took to the waters off Rottnest for the 2.30pm race but with light winds and a few competitors having gear problems at the start, not everyone made it all the way across Gage Roads.
Here are the official results.
The WA Kite Surfing Wave Riding State Titles are open for registration to all members. This event is taking place at Wedge Island in early November and is expected to attract the best wave kite surfers in Western Australia.
Check out full details of the event here. Registration is $25 and must be completed prior to the day. Only WAKSA or AKSA members may take part in the event, so if your membership isn't current, please renew it asap.
After a fairly average winter for kiting, we know members will be keen to get out on the water as soon as consistent wind arrives.
The WAKSA Committee is very pleased to announce the following events for the seaon 2011/12 - it's going to be a huge summer!!
Last Saturday, 19th Feb, saw WAKSA's Course Racing successfully head south of the river to Rockingham. A total of 15 kiters made the trek down to Safety Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) for a exciting afternoon of racing. Many had not tried racing before, and even fewer had used a 'course board'. Thanks to Airborne Kitesurfing and WA Surf; everyone who attended was able to compete on these racing specific boards.
